Williams and Co. 1865. 384 pp. 8.25" x 5.75". 8vo. Hardcover full cloth. As-is, with superficial scuffing to boards, particularly on top left corner of rear board. Fading to gilt lettering on spine. Hinges remain in good condition at front and rear. Cracking and shakiness present in middle of text block, with partial looseness to pages between pages 225 and 254. Includes a small assortment of black-and-white plates throughout, with some instances of wear and loss to tissue guards. Light markings. Faint staining remnants to top corner of pages. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. Likely a second edition, with the work having first been published a year prior in Boston. Edmonds (1841-1898) was a Canadian-born woman who claimed to have served with the Union Army as a nurse and spy, although many records of her service, particularly her alleged spying activities, are now regarded as highly sensationalized or outright debunked. In 1897, she was the second woman admitted to the Grand Army of the Republic. A great reading copy and candidate for restoration.
